JSW Steel Breaks Ground on New Integrated Plant in Andhra Pradesh

JSW Steel, a major player in India's steel industry, has kicked off construction on an integrated steel facility in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The project carries a combined price tag of 163.50 billion Indian rupees (roughly €1.5 billion) and will be rolled out across two stages, according to a report from SteelRadar.

According to the company, the plant represents an important piece of its broader strategy to grow output in the state while contributing to the region's industrial growth.

The project will be carried out by JSW Rayalaseema Steel Ltd, a fully owned subsidiary of JSW Steel, and is structured around two main construction stages:

1. Phase one calls for an outlay of 45 billion rupees to establish an integrated facility capable of producing 1 million tonnes of steel annually, with a focus on low-carbon steel products.
2. Phase two will involve additional spending of up to 118.50 billion rupees to bring total output up to 2 million tonnes of finished steel per year.

The new complex is also set to benefit from a wave of infrastructure investment — spanning roads, rail links, power, and water systems — being planned by both government bodies and private companies. These upgrades are intended to streamline logistics and support sustained economic development throughout the wider region.

This announcement follows news that JSW Steel had already begun building a separate steel plant in Paradip, Odisha, backed by an investment of 65,000 crore rupees (about $6.8 billion) and designed to reach an annual production capacity of 13.2 million tonnes.
