Japan imposes anti-dumping duties on hot-dip galvanized steel from S.Korea, China

TOKYO, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Japan on Tuesday announced an anti-dumping duty of up to 55% on ?hot-dipped galvanised steel from South Korea ‌and mainland China, to protect Japanese steelmakers from what it called dumped products from Asian neighbours.

• A provisional ?duty rate of between 29.2% and ?55.3% will be applied on hot-dipped galvanised ?steel coil, sheet and strip imports ?from China and South Korea from August 8 ?to December 7, Japan's trade and finance ministries said in a statement.
• These steel products with corrosion resistance coating ?are used primarily as construction materials such ?as guardrails, houses, fences, and components of electric appliances ‌such ?as refrigerators, the ministries said. Imports from Hong Kong and Macau are excluded from the duties, they added.
• The decision followed a ?year-long probe after ?Nippon ?Steel, Kobe Steel  and Yodoko filed a petition to the government in ?April 2025, claiming cheaper imports have ?forced ?them to cut prices of the products. The ministries had extended the investigation period last month.
• Tokyo ?has ?also recently imposed anti-dumping duties ?on nickel-based stainless cold-rolled steels and graphite electrodes from Asian trade ?partners.
