Nucor-Yamato and Gerdau have raised their prices for beams in the US

Nucor-Yamato, Gerdau Raise U.S. Beam Prices by $50/Short Ton

Nucor-Yamato Steel and Gerdau Long Steel North America have announced $50 per short ton increases across a range of U.S. structural steel products, with the new pricing applying to orders placed from October 1.

Key Points
  • Nucor-Yamato: Raised structural steel prices by $50 per short ton, equivalent to $2.50/cwt.
  • Gerdau: Increased prices by $50/st on various beams, structural shapes and selected angles and channels.
  • Effective date: New pricing applies to orders placed from October 1, 2026.
  • Order protection: Confirmed orders entered by the close of business September 30 retain previous pricing if shipped before October 22.
  • Related flat-steel move: Nucor separately set its HRC Consumer Spot Price at $1,220/st on September 28, up $10/st week over week.
SteelPrices Market Intelligence

The significance of the October move is that two major structural steel producers are seeking the same $50/st increase across overlapping product categories and on essentially the same timetable. That provides a stronger pricing signal than an isolated mill announcement, but it still does not establish that transaction prices across every beam, piling, angle and channel size have risen by the full $50/st. The October 22 shipment deadline for protected orders also creates a clear dividing line between previously booked tonnage and newly priced business.

Nucor-Yamato Steel and Gerdau Long Steel North America have announced higher prices for structural steel products in the United States, with both producers seeking increases of $50 per short ton on affected products.

The new pricing applies to orders placed on or after October 1, 2026.

Nucor-Yamato Raises Structural Steel Prices $50/st

Nucor-Yamato Steel, the Nucor Corporation and Yamato Kogyo joint venture, announced a $50/st increase, equivalent to $2.50/cwt, for structural steel products.

The new pricing applies to orders received beginning October 1.

Nucor-Yamato's notice was dated September 30 and stated that confirmed orders on the books by the close of business that day would retain previous pricing provided they shipped before October 22.

Gerdau Announces Matching $50/st Increase

Gerdau Long Steel North America also announced a $50/st increase covering various beams and structural shapes, along with selected angles and channels.

The increase applies to new orders beginning in October, while previously confirmed orders remain price-protected under the reported September 30 and October 22 order-and-shipment conditions.

Mills Have Raised Structural Prices Earlier in 2026

The October increase follows other structural steel pricing moves this year.

In May, Nucor-Yamato and Gerdau raised prices for C12 and C15 beams by $90/st, following an earlier $40/st increase on several products.

That history shows that the latest announcement is part of a series of producer attempts to move structural steel pricing higher during 2026, although individual increases have differed by product and effective date.

Nucor HRC CSP Also Moved Higher in Late September

Separately, Nucor announced on September 28 that its Consumer Spot Price for hot-rolled coil would increase by $10/st to $1,220/st.

The California Steel Industries HRC CSP was set at $1,280/st, also up $10/st from the previous week.

These HRC figures represent Nucor's producer-announced Consumer Spot Prices and should be treated separately from market assessments or reported transaction prices.

Imported Material Remains Part of the U.S. Long-Steel Picture

GMK Center reported that major global rebar markets entered September with expectations of firmer pricing.

In the United States, however, imported product availability had limited domestic price increases early in the month. Reported imported offers remained relatively close to domestic levels even after freight and duties were taken into account.

That context is relevant to the latest structural steel announcements because domestic mill increases still have to compete with alternative supply options available to U.S. buyers.
