Nucor, Gerdau Raise U.S. Rebar Prices $30/Short Ton

Nucor, Gerdau Raise U.S. Rebar Prices $30/Short Ton

Nucor Bar Group and Gerdau Long Steel North America have announced $30 per short ton increases on U.S. rebar, while Nucor separately raised its hot-rolled coil Consumer Spot Price by $10/st to $1,240/st for the week beginning October 12.

Key Points
  • Nucor rebar: Reported $30/st increase applies to orders received after the close of business October 9.
  • Gerdau rebar: Reported $30/st increase applies to new orders received from October 12.
  • Protected rebar orders: Orders confirmed by the close of business October 9 retain prior pricing if shipped by October 23, according to Kallanish reporting.
  • Nucor HRC CSP: Increased $10/st to $1,240/st for the week beginning October 12.
  • CSI HRC CSP: Increased $15/st to $1,305/st.
  • HRC lead times: Remained at three to five weeks.
SteelPrices Market Intelligence

The October announcements show U.S. mills continuing to seek higher prices across several product groups, but the moves should not be collapsed into a single market-wide steel-price increase. Nucor and Gerdau are raising producer pricing on rebar, Gerdau has separately moved merchant and structural products higher, and Nucor has lifted its weekly HRC CSP. The alignment in direction is notable, but acceptance still depends on product-specific demand, imports, lead times and transaction conditions.

Nucor Bar Group and Gerdau Long Steel North America have announced $30 per short ton price increases on U.S. reinforcing bar, according to Kallanish reporting cited by GMK Center.

Nucor's reported increase applies to orders received after the close of business on October 9, 2026.

Gerdau's rebar increase applies to new orders received from October 12.

SteelPrices unit correction: The announced rebar increase is $30 per U.S. short ton. It should not be described simply as $30 per metric tonne. One short ton equals 2,000 lb; SteelPrices preserves the producers' reported U.S. pricing basis rather than silently converting it.

When Do the Nucor and Gerdau Rebar Increases Take Effect?

According to Kallanish reporting based on customer letters, Nucor's $30/st rebar increase applies to orders received after the close of business on October 9.

Gerdau's corresponding rebar increase applies to new orders received from October 12.

Both producers were reported to be protecting confirmed orders on the books as of the close of business on October 9, provided the material is shipped by October 23.

Gerdau Long Steel NA+$30/stNew orders from Oct. 12Ship by Oct. 23
SteelPrices price-basis note: These are producer-announced increases, not evidence that every U.S. rebar transaction has already risen by the full $30/st.

Gerdau Also Raises Merchant and Structural Product Prices

Gerdau Long Steel North America also announced a $30/st increase on additional long-steel products, according to the market reporting.

The affected categories were reported to include most shapes and merchant products such as channels, beams, sections and flats.

The increase applies to new orders received from October 9.

Orders confirmed by the close of business on October 8 retain previous pricing if shipped by October 22.

SteelPrices terminology note: The source describes one affected category as “flat steel.” Because Gerdau Long Steel North America is a long-products operation and merchant-bar product ranges include flats, SteelPrices avoids implying that this announcement applies to flat-rolled sheet or coil products.

Steel Market Update separately reported on October 13 that both Nucor and Gerdau had announced additional increases on merchant bar quality products. SMU confirmed that Nucor raised all MBQ products by $30/st effective for new orders received after the close of business October 8.

That MBQ announcement is separate from the rebar increase and should not be used interchangeably with it.

Nucor Raises HRC CSP to $1,240/Short Ton

Separately, Nucor raised its weekly Consumer Spot Price for hot-rolled coil on October 12.

The producer's HRC CSP increased by $10/st to $1,240/st.

California Steel Industries' West Coast HRC CSP increased by a larger $15/st to $1,305/st.

Nucor continued to quote spot lead times of three to five weeks.

Nucor HRC CSP — October 12
ProducerCurrent CSPWeekly Move
Nucor$1,240/st+$10/st
California Steel Industries$1,305/st+$15/st
SteelPrices HRC correction: The source article lists $1,240 and $1,305 as prices per metric tonne. Steel Market Update confirms that both Nucor CSP figures are quoted per U.S. short ton.

Nucor HRC CSP Has Risen $50/st Since September 8

Nucor's latest move continues the producer's recent sequence of weekly HRC increases.

The CSP was $1,190/st on September 8 and has since moved to:

AnnouncementNucor HRC CSP
Sept. 8$1,190/st
Sept. 14$1,200/st
Sept. 21$1,210/st
Sept. 28$1,220/st
Oct. 5$1,230/st
Oct. 12$1,240/st

From September 8 through October 12, Nucor's announced HRC CSP therefore increased by $50/st.

The previous SteelPrices report is available here: Nucor Raises HRC CSP to $1,230/Short Ton .

SteelPrices HRC read: Six consecutive weekly CSP levels from September 8 through October 12 show a clear producer-led upward pricing sequence. They do not establish that all U.S. HRC transactions rose by the same $50/st over the period.

How Do Nucor's HRC CSP and Market Assessments Compare?

Steel Market Update reported an average U.S. HRC market assessment of $1,270/st on October 6, up $10/st from the previous week.

That assessment was above Nucor's $1,230/st CSP for the week beginning October 5 and preceded the producer's October 12 increase to $1,240/st.

The comparison reinforces the need to distinguish Nucor's announced CSP from an independent market assessment.

SteelPrices methodology note: Producer-announced CSPs, mill price increases and third-party market assessments are different price references. None should be substituted for another without clearly identifying the basis and date.

U.S. Long-Steel Mills Have Been Seeking Higher Prices

The latest rebar and merchant-product announcements follow other long-steel price increases this year.

In May, Nucor, Gerdau and Optimus Steel announced $30/st increases on U.S. rebar, with additional surcharges on certain coil products.

SteelPrices covered that move here: Nucor, Gerdau and Optimus Raise U.S. Rebar Prices .

More recently, Nucor-Yamato Steel and Gerdau raised prices on various beams and structural shapes by $50/st for October orders.

Rebar Demand Remains Supported by Several Construction Segments

Market reporting in early September indicated that U.S. rebar demand continued to receive support from energy, infrastructure and data-center-related construction.

At the same time, imported rebar availability was reported to be limiting the extent to which domestic producers could move prices higher.

Those conditions remain relevant to the latest $30/st producer increases because announced mill pricing still has to compete with alternative supply and buyer resistance.

SteelPrices market read: Matching $30/st rebar increases from two major domestic producers provide a stronger pricing signal than an isolated mill move. The next test is transaction acceptance: imported material, project demand and mill order books will determine how much of the announced increase reaches completed business.

What Do the Latest U.S. Steel Price Increases Mean?

The October announcements show producers seeking higher pricing across rebar, merchant and structural products and hot-rolled coil.

The increases do not, however, represent one uniform U.S. steel price movement.

Rebar carries a $30/st producer increase, Gerdau has separately moved selected long products higher, and Nucor's HRC change is a $10/st weekly CSP adjustment with CSI up $15/st.

Buyers should therefore evaluate each product on its own price basis, effective date, order-protection terms and market conditions rather than interpreting the announcements as a single across-the-board increase.
