Global steel production in July 2026 fell by 0.3% y/y – to 149.2 million tonnes. This is shown by the World Steel Association’s global ranking of steel-producing countries (70).
Compared with the previous month, the figure fell by 4.2%.
Total steel production in the CIS countries plus Ukraine rose by 2.2% year-on-year over the month, but fell by 1.5% month-on-month to 6.7 million tonnes. In July, Ukraine produced 457,000 tonnes of steel, which is 21.3% down year-on-year and 33.8% down month-on-month.
According to World Steel, the top ten steel-producing countries in July were:
- China — 79.6 million tonnes (-3.6% year-on-year);
- India — 14.4 million tonnes (+1.9%);
- USA — 7.4 million tonnes (+4.4%);
- Japan — 6.9 million tonnes (+0.4%);
- Russia — 5.7 million tonnes (+3.3%);
- South Korea — 5.7 million tonnes (+6.4%);
- Turkey — 3.4 million tonnes (+7%);
- Germany — 2.8 million tonnes (+3%);
- Brazil — 2.8 million tonnes (+0.1%);
- Vietnam — 2.7 million tonnes (+34.7%).
In the first seven months of 2026, global steel production reached 1.08 billion tonnes, which is 0.6% less than in the same period of 2025. In the CIS countries and Ukraine, 45.5 million tonnes of steel were produced during this period, which is 6% less year-on-year.
As reported by GMK Center, in 2025, global steel production fell by 2% year-on-year to 1.8 billion tonnes. Total steel production in the CIS countries plus Ukraine fell by 4.4% year-on-year last year to 81.3 million tonnes. China reduced output by 4.4% year-on-year (960.8 million tonnes), India increased it by 10.4% year-on-year (164.9 million tonnes), and the US by 3.1% year-on-year (82 million tonnes).
