Spain increased steel production by 6.3% y/y in January-July


Spanish steel companies increased steel production by 6.3% in January-July 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, to 7.48 million tons. Thus, the country ranks 15th in the WorldSteel Association’s global ranking of steel-producing countries (70).

In July, Spanish metallurgists produced 900,000 tons of steel, which is 12.9% more than in July last year and 18.6% less than in the previous month. Average monthly steel production in January-July amounted to 1.068 million tons, compared to 1.019 million tons a year earlier. The July figure is the lowest since December 2024.

Overall, EU steelmakers reduced steel production by 7% y/y in July 2025 – to 10.2 million tons, and by 3.8% y/y in January-July – to 75.6 million tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Spain increased steel production by 3.3% year-on-year in 2024, to 11.82 million tons. In December, Spanish steelmakers produced 870,000 tons of steel (-14.3% month-on-month; +16% year-on-year). The average monthly steel output in 2024 was 985.2 thousand tons, compared to 954.3 thousand tons in 2023 and 964.4 thousand tons in 2022.

There are 14 operating steel enterprises in Spain: Megasa Siderúrgica Narón (capacity of 700,000 tons of steel per year), ArcelorMittal Asturias (Gijón) (1.2 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Asturias (Aviles) (4.2 million tons/year), Celsa Global Steel Wire Santander (750 thousand tons/year), Sidenor Aceros Especiales Basuri (740 thousand tons/year), ArcelorMittal Sestao (2 million tons/year), Celsa Nervacero (1 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Olaberria-Bergara (1.45 million tons/year), Megasider Zaragoza (500,000 tons/year), Celsa Barcelona Castellbisbal (2.5 million tons/year), Grupo Gallardo Corrugados Getafe (600,000 tons/year), Grupo Gallardo Siderurgica Balboa Jerez de los Caballeros (1.3 million tons/year), Riva Siderurgica Sevillana (1.3 million tons/year), Acerinox Europa Los Barrios (1.2 million tons/year).
